Dubai Metro will be running non-stop over New Year’s Eve starting from the beginning of the services on the red and green lines on Thursday 31st January, straight through until the end of services on 1st January 2016. Added to this the Dubai Tram will also be open non-stop over December 31st to January 1st. Additionally there will be 5000 additional parking spots within the events area, including Trade Centre, Al Wasl Club and Zabeel Park, as well as public buses organized on free service.

5 May 2016 – Thursday (Leilat Al-Meiraj Holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH Ascension)

Al Isra’ wal Miraj or Isra and Mi’raj, the 27th day of the month of Rajab which is the 7th month in the Islamic calendar is a public holiday in Dubai and the UAE.

On this event the Holy Prophet PBUH at night went on journey both physical and spiritual journey from the city of Makkah al-Mukarramah to Jerusalem and from there to the Heaven by the will of Al Mighty ALLAH.

The Holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH travels on the steed Buraq to “the farthest mosque” where the prophet PBUH leads other prophets in prayer. The Holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH then ascends to heaven in the Mi’raj journey where he speaks to AL Might ALLAH, who gives Holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH instructions to take back to the faithful regarding the details of prayer.

7 June, Tuesday 2016 is the starting date of Ramadan with; the first crescent of the moon sighting of Ramadan Kareem.

The ninth month in Lunar calendar is the Muslim’s holy month in which they observe fasting during the daylight hours from sunrise to sunset. Special arrangement are made in every mosque at Sehr and Iftaar time. Fasting days ends on the next month Shawwal moon sighting. According to announcement of latest ‘Dubai official holidays 2016’ there will be no public holiday on this date but office timing will change from 9 am to probably 2 pm during this month.

EID UL FITR will be held on 7 July 2016. Dubai Government announces a long weekend of official holidays during 7 July Thursday to 9 July Saturday 2016, for Eid ul Fitr celebrations.

The tenth month of Shawwal begins with a reward to Muslims from Allah. Its first day is considered as Eid ul Fitr starts with special prayer. Second day also called the day of Arafat is of high importance among these 5 days of hajj which held on held on 9th of Dul Hajj is a public holiday. Our Prophet Muhammad PBUH said: “ الحج عرفة “ or “Hajj is Arafah”, this statement express the significance of the day of Arafah that Muslim pilgrims ought to observed and witness this day for the performance of Hajj. The famous sermon of Muhammad PBUH was also delivered from plain of Arafah. Muslims who were not observing pilgrimage can quench their thirst in participation by fasting and devotion.

Eid ul Adha is commonly known as Feast of sacrifice or Bakra Eid. Three public holidays on Eid is for sacrificing an animal in specified time to fulfil God’s commands. From Abraham (Ibrahim) this tradition begins; God, in his dream, command him to sacrifice his son Ismail but at the time of sacrifice a sheep appears and angel Gabriel informs him that his sacrifice accepted. Muslims every year followed this tradition with a special prayer and then sacrifice. The meat of animal according to the guidelines of Islam is divided into three parts; one for their own, second for friends and relatives and third for poor and needy people.

Islamic New Year also recognized as the Hijri New Year according to lunar calendar. The reason for calling Hijri Year is the migration of Muhammad PBUH from mecca to medina in 622 CE; this event known as Hijra and is public holiday. Every year lasts about 354 days and 12 months; among these 12 months New Year starts from the first date of Muharram ul Haram. Battle of Karbala, a big historical event, also attached to Muharram.

UAE 45th National Day will be observe on Friday 2, December 2016.

National Day of UAE is celebrated annually on December 2 for the amalgamation of the seven emirates named; Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Fujairah, Sharjah, Dubai, Ras al-Khaimah and Umm al-Qaiwain is a public holiday. Referring to lunar calendar Muhammad PBUH was born on 12thof Rabi ul Awwal, referring to the lunar calendar, in the Nobel family of Hashim (571 AD) and is celebrated as a public holiday in Dubai and the UAE. His caretaking was under Abu Talib (his uncle) because he was orphaned at an early age. After spend several nights of prayer in ‘Hira’ cave he received his first revelation from God at the age of 40. Initially he worked as a merchant but after 3 years of his revelation he forwarded God’s message to public and became a prophet. We celebrate every year this precious event by reading Naat and promised to follow his Sunnah.
